The Russian-built Mil Mi-24 is arguably the best known and the most numerous combat helicopter in the world. It is operated by many nations, including some that have recently joined NATO.
The M1-24 has been actively and successfully used in numerous armed conflicts around the world, including the Afghan war. In the mid-1980s the M1-24 was evaluated by the USAF and earned much praise.
Developed in the late 1960s and entering service in the early 1970s, the M1-24 is still a formidable fighting machine and at war as the 21st century begins. This book contains an introductory briefing for the reader explaining the concept of the M1-24 and that is followed by a detailed development history with descriptions of all existing versions, including test-beds.
The M1-24's service history with the Soviet / Russian army and an account of the wars in which the helicopter participated are included and further chapters deal with M1-24 operators around the world (including fleet lists) and a structural description.
